A Lunchtime Presentation by Alex Tinguely & Maria Gatu Johnson

Date: Monday, 5 May 2025

Time: 12-1 PM

Location: Hybrid - please register in order to receive the zoom link!

Join us for a lunchtime presentation on the Race to Fusion Energy. Fusion energy is approaching a breakthrough, with two leading approaches—magnetic confinement fusion (MCF) and inertial confinement fusion (ICF)—competing to achieve net energy gain. This presentation will explore the fundamental principles of both methods, highlight recent advancements in high-field tokamaks (e.g., SPARC) and laser-driven fusion (e.g., NIF), and touch on some of the challenges and opportunities in the field, including ongoing developments. With net energy gain already demonstrated, the race to practical fusion power is intensifying—who will win? Ultimately, we all do.

Register for this event here to receive the zoom link, which will be sent out closer to the date of the event.
