As fusion energy moves closer to commercial reality, understanding how it is perceived by the public and by those working at the frontier of the field has never been more important. This presentation unveils preliminary findings from three landmark data streams: the first nationally representative survey of U.S. public opinion on fusion energy, in-depth focus groups exploring public attitudes toward and understanding of fusion energy technology, and a survey of fusion subject-matter experts. Together, these data offer a rare, 360-degree portrait of the socio-technical landscape surrounding fusion, revealing preliminary insights on where consensus exists, where gaps persist, and what the hopes, skepticism, and knowledge gaps mean for fusion's path from the lab to the grid.
